MAJA BLANCA CAKE

Maja Blanca Cake Tart Good morning everyone( or evening depending under what palm tree you are reading this post) and Happy Birthday! Who's birthday? Depends on specific cases ( Happy Bday Ate A and Gabrielle (counting that you'll be a Feb. baby, people born this month are the best!), but mostly generic we should celebrate the best day of all, Women's Day, on March 1st! Why the best? Because it's well known they always bring the best ( or worst ) in us ( but for this specific occasion we shall assume it's the best! ), and as such I have researched deep inside my endless bucket of inspiration for an appropriate gift. Not having found one and considering that flowers are overrated, I shall give you the best gift of all: the gift of knowledge, as I shall bake the best cake ever, using an old filipino recipe and my best unique ideas for an astonishing end result that I shall eat all alone while you cheer Sarap, Sarap ! Yes, as you already figured it out from t

TORTANG GINILING

TORTANG GINILING (Meat Omelet)

Halo halo everyone and what's up duude! As you know , last week Canada officially traded the maple leaf to it's shape resembling greener cousin you can also smoke, so we're on the way of becoming more eco friendly soon. This made me think I need to include more vegetables in my diet as per R's recommendation of becoming hotter at least since rich is not an option ( yet ). That's why I took a long look in my fridge and reflected on the past , present and future of the world as we know it, and computed that since i'm a bit lazy I shall chose a mix of my favorite ingredients in the world, eggs ( potatoes are still sharing the podium but not today. And yes, they are vegetables). Alright, so looking at the super short list of available components and seeing the word mix written in front... mix of ..eggs.. it give me the greatest idea ever: we shall cook an omelette! Nope, not du fromage, but as a quick google on filipino egg recipes  search revealed, Tortang Giniling ( so basically a meat and whatever you find in the fridge omelet ). Mmmmm- mmmmm!
Now the process for this is fairly simple and impossible to ruin so I'll keep it short and tasty.
For start, set up you oven to 450 degrees and wait till the red light goes off. Or green. At which point you can cross. Oh wait , no, at which point you get your favorite on sale frozen pizza out of the fridge and bake it for 10 minutes. And now we eat.
Yes, this is a crucial step in the process because my calendar said I had a dentist appointment today and apparently they don't work on Sunday, but that didn't change the fact I didn't have my morning breakfast following the cardio jogging back and forth to the cabinet. Good, now that you are better ( it's not you when you're hungry ) watch some Netflix.
What? oh, yes, the omelet. What about it? Ok , ok, I'll do something fast for you.
So here we go:
-Get some minced pork meat and slam it into the pan with condiments and stuff ( anything is fine if you have a fine taste in herbs ). If not, salt and pepper will do. And that bunch of green onions and a chopped bell pepper. What about the can of cubed peas and carrots? What about it? Just drop it in there! You can't go wrong! As my mom used to say, as long as it's green or orange and you don't wear it on the street you should be fine!
Good, now that you have a nice steamy mix of stuff add in some filipino flavors to make it more asian friendly: soy sauce and a spoon of fish sauce. And more pepper. More. More, MORE!
Alright so 8 minutes later ( that you'll never get back ) we already have a tasty good looking base you can accompany to any side dish like rice or fried banana. Oh yes, the eggs. What about them? Just slam those in the mix also! Waait, did you already? Not yet? Good. Cause I've read somewhere that fizzy water into eggs makes the omelet fluffy and soft like a puffy pillow into the morning breeze( I made up the breeze part, but I guess a fluffy pillow in the morning is not far fetched). Alright, so yes add fizzy water, but I didn't have any available except for that can of Pepsi Diet ( see R, I'm eating healthy, 0 calories, wooohooooo! ), so yes, I've dropped some into the egg mix and watch it fluff up.
Now put everything in a big pan and cook till you get an omelet.
Now in my case the end result is more like scrambled  eggs cause I didn't have patience to split and cook it in 3 separate portions ( or maybe because of the aspartame ), but if you use like 1/3 of the mix in 3 different pans you should have 3 normal omelets for 1 very hungry breakfastless person . Put a banana on it also and you have a king's feast ( ...or A..sparta..me feast) ! Sarap!
